Here are some things happening this May!

Food Specials

For this month, we are offering 2 great food specials that are now available in both locations that are sure to excite the palate and bring you great new flavors of Puerto Rico!

First is our baby back pork Guava Ribs.  We’ve done these in the past and they are fantastic!  Chef inspired with ingredients from the island, we dry rub our ribs with a secret blend of spices, then slow bake until tender.  Finished ribs are pan seared with a guava, garlic and habanero sauce creating a wonderful sticky and delicious glaze that excites the taste buds!  Served along side our rice and beans, salad and tostones, this meal blends playful flavors of the island with our traditional sides-come get them and be blown away!

Second on the specials list is our Camarones en Escabeche-actually, this is a seasonal menu item that we bring back for Spring and Summer.  This is a light and refreshing shrimp and vegetable salad marinated in oil and vinegar, served on a bed of lettuce with fresh lemon wedges.  This is one of my personal favorites and brings back great memories of sitting on the patio with a freshly made mojito-come try and it out and let us know what you think!

Rums

Alfonso and I are very, very excited about some of the rum additions we’ve been able to acquire the past month.  Namely, Ron Diplomatico, Ron Abuelo and Barcelo Imperial.

The Diplomatico line just made its way back into Washington state after a couple of years absence and we are the first to acquire it back to our shelves.  The Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva has got to be one of the best balanced rums I’ve tried and one of my personal favorites!  To read a review of it, check it out here-97 out of 100 is not bad for a score! http://therumhowlerblog.wordpress.com/rum-reviews/dark-rums/diplomatico-reserva-exclusiva/

Next on the list is the Ron Abuelo line; again, we were just able to get access to this fine rum in the past month.  This rum is from Panama and the 12 year has an oakiness that is reminiscent of a good brandy, yet is balanced with a fruitness of a fine wine.  Get a glass of this, sip slowly and enjoy!

Finally, Barcelo Imperial.  For those of you who like bourbon, this is it!  Brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon give way to a deep leathery and tobacco finish-if it’s a bit hot, ask to have an ice cube or a few drops of water to open it up-the profile will change before your palate!

What’s coming:

May 15th in Ballard, we will officially open our outside patio.  This is one of the best spots in Ballard to take in some people watching, enjoy our great food and finish them off with a tropical cocktail-a mojito or pina colada.  Get ready for summer and come down and enjoy!

Oh, and we can’t forget La Isla Redmond-we’re working on getting a patio set up out there too.  A couple more weeks and we’ll install the railing, fill it with tables and chairs and take advantage of the summer’s nice weather to come.  Stay tuned here and check out Facebook page for updates.

Finally, a big thank you from myself and Alfonso for making La Isla Cuisine what it is!  We feel very honored as owners that many of you come time and time again, referring your family and friends to come and share an experience with us.  Our goal is to have you walk into our doors and feel like family.  Our concept is to treat each and every one of you like we would a guest that steps into our own home, with comfort food, unique cocktails and rums and most of all, an experience you can’t find anywhere else!

Salute!
