Last Tuesday we hosted a cocktail hour at the La Isla Redmond bar which was led by one of the most knowledgeable people in the world of rum, Edward Hamilton, founder of the Ministry of Rum. We tasted Neisson Rhumincluding Neisson Blanc, Eleve Sous Bois, and Reserve Speciale complimented by finger food and a discussion led by the guru of rum himself, Mr. Hamilton.

Edward Hamilton is the author of several books on La Isla’s favorite spirit, Rum. He is known as the “godfather of rum,” and even runs the Ministry of Rum website, which is where we brush up on our rum knowledge quite frequently. He is an importer of fine rums with his passion being agricole rums, including La Favorite and Neisson. He also imports various others, such as Lemonhart and some single barrel rums from all over the world. He started by spending more than a decade sailing the caribbean in search of the finest examples of the distiller’s art. When he isn’t sailing, writing, and visiting his friends at ALL the distilleries around the world, he is busy sharing his passion for sugar cane spirits with people.

He has the dream job for any Rum Bum! Who wouldn’t want to travel the world drinking exclusive rum and learning about it first hand? When your motto sounds something like, “when I dream up a better job, I’m going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues,” you know you’ve done something right. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this special evening!
