“12th Man” Rum Rager at La Isla Cuisine…

This month’s Rum Club was themed “12 Man” in support of the Seahawks. We did this by selecting and tasting 12 year vintage rums. Those lucky enough to make the cut were Ron Abuelo, El Dorado, Parce, and Ron Dictador.

Here’s a recap of the rums we tasted, in order, and the dishes our very own Rodel Borromeo put together to pair with each of these rums.

Ron Abuelo 12 (Panama)

The Abuelo 12 presents bold oak and vanilla notes, dry spiciness and rich caramel tones with a long-lasting, warm finish and paired really great with Rodel’s crispy chicken wings in a spicy pumpkin chile sauce and cracked-candied peanuts.

El Dorado 12 (Guyana)

The El Dorado 12 exhibited rich flavors of fruit and spice, along with oak and vanilla. Smoked pulled pork & turkey-tail slippers with a maple BBQ sauce and horseradish apple slaw where chosen to complement the El Dorado 12.

Ron Parce 12 (Colombia)

The Parce 12 was a wonderful surprise that put forth flavors of toffee, dried fruits and baking spices that finished with hints of mocha and tobacco. It married well with a blueberry-chocolate-walnut Texas cobbler with coffee whipped cream.

Ron Dictador 12 (Colombia)

Ron Dictador 12 hits you in the chops right away but finishes smooth. It hosts flavors of walnuts and pecans that are accompanied by vanilla and caramel and hints of oak. This was served solo and was a great after dinner rum to conclude the evening.

Join us next month when we will taste 4 very unique and tasty holiday cocktails. Next months Rum Club events will be moved up a week to as not to interrupt the week of Christmas. Ballard’s Rum Club event will be the 15th of December, and Redmond’s will be December 16th.

If this is your first time hearing about rum club, it’s important to know we are not exclusive and welcome all newcomers in this monthly event — the only restriction is you have to be over 21! Unless otherwise notified, rum club happens every last Tuesday (at our Ballard location) and Wednesday (at our Redmond location) of each month.
