June might be the busiest month in La Isla history, and we are not mad about it. Soccer, sunshine (allegedly — this is Seattle), new cocktails and two big community events. Here is your complete game plan for the month.
The World Cup Takes Over
Starting June 12, the planet’s biggest tournament kicks off in Brazil — and we are opening at 9am every day for the duration, serving brunch during the first match daily. Both dining rooms, every game, sound up for the big ones. Get the full details in our World Cup post, then pick your team and claim your table.
Father's Day Brunch — Sunday, June 15
Dad does not want another tie. Dad wants the Linebacker: a scrambled-egg empanadilla, French toast and bistec encebollado crowned with a fried egg, plus an ‘Old San Juan’ bloody mary standing at attention beside it. Brunch runs 11am–2pm at both locations, and yes — there happens to be a World Cup match that morning too. Coincidence? We think not. Bring Dad early.
The Summer Cocktail List Debuts
Our bartenders have been squirreling away ideas all spring, and the results hit the menu this month. Look for the Hidden Beach (dark and coconut rums, cilantro, lime, coconut cream, ginger beer), the Palma Real (house lemonade and tea with a rum medley), the Latin 75 (our sparkling answer to the French 75) and the gloriously dangerous Jungle Juice. See the full list on the menus page — and if you want to understand what you are sipping, the Rum Club is always taking new members.
Live Music Fridays
Salsa, bomba and plena take over the Ballard dining room on Friday nights this month. No cover, no dance experience required — just an honest warning that the congas have converted many a self-described non-dancer by the second set.
Silent Auction: We Need Your Help
We are collecting donated goods, services and gift certificates for a silent auction benefiting youth folkloric arts in Seattle. Full details — and how to pledge an item — are in our silent auction post. The tables are filling up nicely, but there is always room for one more bidding war.
On the Fresh Sheet
June’s seasonal board leans into the Northwest’s early-summer bounty, island style: halibut while the season lasts, jumbo prawns in creamy cilantro sauce, and the caldo santo one regular describes as “a postcard from the countryside, in a bowl.” The fresh sheet changes when the dock does, so ask your server what came in this morning — and if the coconut cheesecake is on the board, do not deliberate. It sells out.
Mark Your Calendars
- June 12 — World Cup opening match; early 9am hours begin
- June 13–15 — first full weekend of matches, brunch during the morning game
- June 15 — Father’s Day brunch, 11am–2pm, both locations
- Every Friday — live salsa, bomba and plena in Ballard, no cover
- All month — silent auction donations accepted for the youth folkloric arts benefit
One more housekeeping note: during the busiest World Cup matches, both dining rooms will run a streamlined menu so the kitchen can keep pace with the crowd — all the favorites stay on, but a handful of slow-build dishes (looking at you, mofongo) may sit out the group stage. They return for the knockout rounds, rested and ready.
And As Always…
Happy hour runs every day from 3 to 6pm at both locations, the fresh sheet is rotating with the season, and brunch keeps doing its weekend thing. June, we are ready for you. ¡Dale!
